Iranian Universities make the list of top green universities of the world

World University Ranking Greenmetric has released its 2016 report on sustainable development in educational institutions

World University Ranking "Greenmetric" has released its 2016 report on sustainable development in educational institutions, and three Iranian universities have made the list; University of Zanjan, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad, and University of Tehran.

For the rankings, the six key indicators Greenmetric uses are transportation, water usage, waste management, setting & infrastructure, energy & climate change, and education. Greenmetric is trying to get a picture about how universities are responding to or dealing with the issues of sustainability through policies, actions, and communication, and to provide a comprehensive view of conditions and policies related to environment and sustainable development at the universities of different countries. They base their instruments on the broad philosophy of Environment, Economics, and Equity.

More than ten thousand universities and educational institues are studied before the final list of top 500 is released.

The Iranian unversities ranked as it follows

75   University of Zanjan (Score: 5971)
238   Ferdowsi University of Mashhad (Score: 4484)
431   University of Tehran (Score: 3109)

According to Greenmetric, the top three green universities of 2016 are:

01 University of California Davis (Score: 8398)
02 University of Nottingham (Score: 8079)
03 Wageningen University & Research (Score: 7658)
