The Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment, Dr. Shina Ansari, met and held discussions with António Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, on the sidelines of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30).
According to the Public Relations of the Department of Environment, during the meeting, the UN Secretary-General conveyed his special greetings to the President and the nation of Iran, considering the presence of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s delegation, led by the Vice President, as significant in this strategic summit. He also emphasized Iran’s active role in global discussions related to climate change.
The Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment also highlighted unjust and illegal unilateral sanctions, stressing that: "The environmental sector must be shielded from coercive measures, and international cooperation in this area must be pursued without restrictions and centered on shared global interests."
The UN Secretary-General affirmed this viewpoint. By pointing to the importance of understanding the consequences of climate change on various countries, he listed "climate justice" and equal attention to mitigating damages caused by climate change as top priorities for UN organizations.
