According to the Department of Environment’s public relations report, Ali Mohammad Tahmasbi, Secretary of the National Headquarters for Policymaking and Coordination of Dust Phenomenon Management of the Islamic Republic of Iran, met with Ahmed Almakhmari, a Manager of Environmental Control of Oman, on the sidelines of the International Summit on Combating Sand and Dust Storms and talked.
In this bilateral meeting, Tahmasabi emphasized that Iran is ready to reach a common understanding in the field of transferring experience in the field of dealing with desertification and dust with Oman, and stated: Last year's regional conference on dealing with dust in Iran It was held on July 12 (July 21) in Tehran, and at the suggestion of Iran, this day was registered in the official calendar of the United Nations as the "International Day to Combat Dust Storms". This issue showed that if the countries of the Middle East and West Asia join hands in the field of environmental cooperation, international institutions will be forced to help us in this field and benefit from our common experiences.
The Secretary of the National Staff of Dust Phenomenon Management continued: Since the regional summit was held last year, Iran has been consulting with the countries of the region to establish a regional center and fund for dealing with dust, and we hope that our friend and brother country, Oman, is not the only one in this. The fund should participate, but also have the necessary cooperation with the Islamic Republic so that we can attract the participation of other Arab countries in the region in forming this center and help this fund.
Tahmasabi pointed out: We believe that dealing with the dust phenomenon should be done with the participation of all countries in the region, and in this regard, we have started active consultations in this field since last year. Also, considering the role played by Oman in the region and the influence of Omani brothers among the Persian Gulf countries, we hope you can help in creating convergence between the countries of the region to deal with dust.
He added: This is a request that the Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Dr. Ali Selajgeh, also has from the honorable Minister of the Environment of Oman, and we hope that you will convey our message and greetings to him.
In this meeting, the Manager of environmental control of Oman, while appreciating Iran's favorable hosting of the international summit on dealing with sand and dust storms, said: Iran has taken the lead in dealing with dust in the region, and therefore, the country of Oman must follow the experiences of the Islamic Republic In this regard. We have followed the example of Iran's actions in the field of combating desertification and we plan to plant 10 million saplings in the desert areas of our country.
He added: "In order to attract the participation of the Omani government in the formation of a fund and a regional center for dealing with dust, we must consult with the high authorities of our country in this regard." But we will definitely convey your message to the senior officials of Oman and we are trying to fulfill this request of our brotherly government, Iran.
Almakhmari noted: Oman has joined the organization formed in Saudi Arabia in the field of dealing with dust, and the first meeting of this organization will be held on March 24, 2024.
The manager of Oman's Environment Agency emphasized: Environmental programs cannot be carried out by one country alone, but different countries must cooperate and transfer their knowledge and experiences in environmental fields, including in the field of dealing with dust.
