Heads of Iran and UAE Environmental Departments Meet at COP30

On the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Summit (COP30) in Belém, Dr. Shina Ansari, Vice President and Head of Iran's Department of Environment, met and held talks with Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates.

According to the Public Relations of the Department of Environment:

In this meeting, Dr. Ansari referred to the widespread effects of climate change on the West Asia region and its serious consequences for the environment, biodiversity, and urban areas. She emphasized the necessity of expanding joint cooperation between Iran and the UAE to increase adaptation and resilience against this global phenomenon.

She also recalled last year's meeting with the UAE Minister of Environment and the reason for the postponement of her visit to Iran due to the "special conditions caused by the aggression of the Zionist regime." Dr. Ansari stressed the importance of implementing previous agreements between the two countries in areas related to the environment and climate change.

Following this, Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi appreciated the renewed invitation from the Head of Iran's Department of Environment and emphasized the importance of upgrading the level of bilateral cooperation. She stated that given the understandings reached during last year's visit, it is essential that these agreements move quickly into the implementation phase so that joint activities in environmental areas—especially in combating climate change and controlling sand and dust storms—can be operationalized more rapidly.
