According to the Public Relations Office of the Department of Environment, Vice President and Head of the Department, Shina Ansari, met today with Japan’s Ambassador to Iran, Tsukada Tamaki, to discuss expanding environmental cooperation. Ansari underscored Iran's strong interest in working with Japan on environmental initiatives, especially given Japan’s extensive experience in this field.
In the meeting, Ansari emphasized the Iranian government’s eagerness to benefit from Japan’s environmental expertise. She also highlighted the importance of activating prior agreements between the two nations and taking concrete steps to put them into action. With climate change and carbon reduction as key areas for collaboration, Ansari welcomed joint efforts to tackle these global challenges.
Ambassador Tamaki congratulated Ansari on her new role and reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to strengthening its longstanding relationship with Iran. He expressed Japan’s interest in supporting Iran’s environmental priorities, including projects like the restoration of Lake Urmia, and noted Japan’s experience in areas such as wetlands, marine conservation, desertification, and dust control.
Tamaki also expressed interest in collaborating on air quality initiatives and environmental education in Iran. At the close of the meeting, both officials visited an olive tree in Pardisan Park, planted in 2016 by Mrs. Akie Abe, wife of the late Japanese Prime Minister, as a symbol of peace and friendship between the two nations.
