DOE reports--The national director of Iran's Wetlands Protection Plan considers the presence of the Iran's representatives in COP14 a good opportunity to promote international cooperation regarding the protection and restoration of wetlands
Mehri Asna-ashri pointed out that the summit was held in November Geneva, Switzerland, and was attended by the representatives of 146 countries.
She added, "The motto of this session of the summit was 'Action for wetlands; for people, and nature', which emphasizes the importance of wetland ecosystems as nature-based solutions for human and planetary health."
Speaking about the conference, Asna-ashri said, "The participants had the opportunity to hear the reports on the protection and wise use of wetlands in the member countries, as well. In addition to setting up an exhibition of the achievements of organizations and countries regarding wetlands, more than sixty side events were planned by the member countries and the international environmental organizations."
Ramsar Convention Wetland Protection Award and wetland cities were also part of this meeting. During the negotiations, the regional meeting was also held.
The national director of Iran's Wetlands Protection Plan said, "We held a booth in the side exhibition of the meeting presenting our wetland-related publications and awareness items produced in Iran."
Iran also participated in regional meetings of Asia and the Pacific and the side events, reviewing the country's situation in the Ramsar Convention, and negotiating with the regional center of East Asia and the Secretary General of the Convention, as well as the Chief Advisor for Asia and the Pacific of the Ramsar Convention.
