Head of Iran's Department of Environment Meets with Kuwait's Minister of Oil on Sidelines of COP30 in Brazil

According to the Public Relations of the Department of Environment, Dr. Shina Ansari, Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment, met and held discussions with Tareq Suleiman Ahmad Al-Roumi, Minister of Oil and Head of the Kuwaiti delegation, on the sidelines of the COP30 Climate Change Summit in Brazil.

In this meeting, the Head of the high-ranking Kuwaiti delegation referred to the importance of historic relations between Iran and Kuwait, stating that the relationship between the two countries is more than just neighborly and enjoys a deep and special bond. He also noted the necessity of joint cooperation within the framework of international environmental conventions, pointing out that while global cooperation is maintained, the national interests of countries with natural resources must also be preserved and respected.

The Vice President and Head of the Department of Environment, Dr. Ansari, referred to the extensive commonalities between the two countries in the oil and gas industry. She emphasized the importance of implementing joint environmental projects, particularly concerning compliance with standards and the cleaning and remediation of polluted soil and water areas.

She added that cooperation between Iran and Kuwait, both within the framework of the regional ROPME convention and in the form of bilateral relations, must be developed for the protection of the Persian Gulf marine environment.

Furthermore, Dr. Ansari announced the Islamic Republic of Iran's readiness to upgrade and update the existing environmental agreement between the two countries. Tareq Al-Roumi welcomed this proposal and emphasized the exchange of expert delegations and cooperation for the modernization of the agreement.
