DOE—20, October 2018—The commander of Iran's Department of Environment pointed out the lack of legal justification for environmental rangers using their weapons.

Colonel Mohabatkhani said, "We hope that by changing the law on the use of weapons or adopting new laws to protect the environmental  rangers, we will remove their doubts of using their weapons, so they do not hesitate to make a decision."

He added, "Any environmental rangers who is injured or killed in action will be treated as a member of police and other armed forces, and is considered a martyr or a veteran."
